CSK call Urvil Patel, Indian with fastest T20 hundred, for trials midway in IPL 2025

CSK call Urvil Patel, Indian with fastest T20 hundred, for trials midway in IPL 2025

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also called Ayush Mhatre for trials in between IPL 2025 before signing him as Gaikwad's replacement.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have become the first team to get eliminated from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The team that has won just two out of their first ten games has been under intense pressure. Nothing has gone right for them, with CSK looking for answers left, right and centre. Unlike other franchises, CSK have been calling up players for trials midway in the IPL 2025, with Urvil Patel’s name most recently gaining attention.

Mid season trials for Urvil Patel with CSK

Well, according to Wasim Jaffer, CSK have called Urvil Patel for trials amidst the IPL 2025. While he didn’t mention the timeline as to when CSK called him or whether Patel has completed the trials or not. Regardless, it’s massive news, considering CSK already signed Ayush Mhatre as a replacement for injured Ruturaj Gaikwad. Fascinatingly, Mhatre also gave mid-season trials this year.

While speaking to ESPNcricinfo after CSK’s heavy season-ending loss to the Punjab Kings, Jaffer alluded that he’s got a news regarding Urvil and CSK.

I’ve heard and I’ve got backroom news, that CSK have called Urvil Patel, the guy who got a couple of hundreds in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy. I’m surprised that he was not picked by any franchise; I was actually surprised. Even Ayush Mhatre was picked ahead of him. He’s been asked to trial there, so don’t know what’s cooking there,” Wasim Jaffer said on ESPN Cricinfo.

Urvil has been a well-known ball striker in the domestic circuit. In fact, he holds the record for hitting the second-fastest T20 hundred ever. He clamoured a 28-ball century while playing for Gujarat at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). That insane knock against Tripura two days after he went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

That’s not it. The 26-year-old also holds the record for hitting a 41-ball century in a List-A match, making him the third-fastest Indian after Yusuf Pathan (40 balls) and Anmolpreet Singh (35 balls) to whack a hundred in the format.
