CSK create unwanted record, lose 5 games at Chepauk for first time in IPL history

CSK have failed to defend their fortress in IPL 2025 and have now lost five games in Chennai

Chennai Super Kings suffered a fifth consecutive defeat at their home ground – the MA Chidambaram stadium. The 6-wicket loss to PBKS marked Dhoni & co’s 8th loss on IPL 2025, making them the first side to be knocked out of the playoffs race. Yuzvendra Chahal’s hat-trick followed by captain Shreyas Iyer’s 72-run knock powered PBKS to their sixth win, taking them to the 2nd spot on the points table.

Anbuden no more CSK’s fortress

The loss against PBKS meant CSK had lost five matches at home for the first time in the history of IPL. After starting the season on a winning note by beating arch-rivals MI, Dhoni and co. have simply failed to fire at home. The previous record for most losses at home for CSK came in 2008 and 2012 where they lost four games.

  1. Five in 2025 (6 matches)*
    Four in 2008 (7 matches)
Four in 2012 (10 matches, including finals)

CSK have one more match to play at home and it will take place on May 12 when they take on RR. the loss to PBKS also marked CSK’s 25th loss at the Chepauk.
