Dewald Brevis returns to South Africa T20I squad after two years following IPL 2025 exploits

Brevis had a quiet debut in 2023, scoring just five runs in two T20Is, but he’s since matured through domestic cricket and franchise leagues.

Dewald Brevis is back in South Africa’s T20I squad after a two-year hiatus. The aggressive batter joins the squad following a stellar run in IPL 2025 with CSK. The 21-year-old, often dubbed “Baby AB” for his explosive batting style, earned his recall for the upcoming T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe, where South Africa will face Zimbabwe and New Zealand.

Brevis had a quiet debut in 2023, scoring just five runs in two T20Is, but he’s since matured through domestic cricket and franchise leagues.

With regulars like Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada rested, South Africa has gone with a youthful squad led by Rassie van der Dussen. Brevis will be joined by other exciting names like Lhuan-dré Pretorius and Rubin Hermann, as the Proteas look to build depth ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The tri-series, which starts on July 14, includes New Zealand, who will be coached by South Africa’s former white-ball coach, Rob Walter. All seven matches will be played in Harare.
