Immense focus and hard work: Karun Nair gets Sachin Tendulkar’s blessings for surreal domestic form

Karun Nair is averaging 752.00 in Vijay Hazare Trophy after going unbeaten in 7 innings which include five centuries.

What does it take to impress a legend? Ask Karun Nair, who has just received high praise from none other than Sachin Tendulkar. With a staggering 752 runs in just 7 innings, Nair is making waves in the cricketing world. But behind this success lies a tale of struggle, resilience, and a second chance that turned his career around. And now, whispers are growing louder: Will Nair be the surprise package in the 2025 Champions Trophy squad?

Sachin Tendulkar praises Nair’s domestic form

His extraordinary efforts after a viral tweet in 2022: Dear cricketgive me one more chance, hasn’t gone unnoticed. After losing his spot in the India Cricket Team and then from the Karnataka team, Nair seemed to be the talk of the past. However, this season, Nair has rekindled the fire in him. The great Sachin Tendulkar hasn’t missed that either.

Scoring 752 runs in 7 innings with 5 centuries is nothing short of extraordinary, Karun. Performances like these don’t just happen, they come from immense focus and hard work. Keep going strong and make every opportunity count!” Tendulkar wrote on Twitter.

In reply, Karun Nair wrote, “Thank you so much sir, means a lot”.

Karun Nair averages 752 in Vijay Hazare

Karun Nair’s impressively high average is mainly attributed to him remaining unbeaten in six out of his seven innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Remarkably, this is only his first half-century of the tournament and just the second time this year he hasn’t reached a century. His recent scores in the tournament read: 112, 44, 163, 111, 112, 122, and 88.

Karun Nair in Champions Trophy squad?

Karun Nair’s recent surge of centuries has suddenly positioned him as a surprise contender for the Indian squad in the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy. Nair, who has been representing Vidarbha since 2023, experienced a significant setback after becoming India’s second triple centurion in Tests in 2016, as he was even overlooked for selection by his home state, Karnataka.

However, a conversation with former Indian cricketer Abey Kuruvilla during the DY Patil tournament in early 2023 helped him find a fresh start with Vidarbha for the 2023-24 season. Since then, Nair has been consistently accumulating runs across all formats.
