Over the course of their first five home matches, KKR diverted 35,113 kilograms of waste from landfills.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have taken a significant step toward environmental responsibility by successfully diverting 84.9% of stadium waste from landfills during their seven home matches at Eden Gardens in the TATA IPL 2025 season. This initiative underscores the franchise’s commitment to sustainability and sets a benchmark for waste management in sporting events.

Waste Management Strategy

KKR implemented a multi-pronged waste management approach to achieve this milestone. The franchise installed 200 waste segregation bins across the stadium, encouraging fans to separate their waste responsibly. Additionally, a dedicated Green Team was deployed to assist spectators and maintain a litter-free environment.

To further promote responsible behavior, KKR launched anti-litter messaging and awareness campaigns throughout the stadium. Waste management training was also conducted for key stakeholders, including food stall vendors and catering teams, ensuring proper disposal practices.

Impact and Results

Over the course of their first five home matches, KKR diverted 35,113 kilograms of waste from landfills. The breakdown of waste management efforts includes

  • 27,194 kgs recycled
  • 4,885 kgs composted
  • 2,826 kgs upcycled (including KKR flags)
  • 207 kgs of food donated to local communities

KKR’s Commitment to Sustainability

KKR co-owner Juhi Chawla emphasized the importance of using cricket as a platform to promote sustainability. She stated that the initiative is not just about cheering for the team but also about protecting the planet. The franchise extended its gratitude to volunteers, waste workers, and fans for their support.
