Spinners day out, as hosts tantalisingly close to series win over Bangladesh

The first SL vs BAN Test in Galle had ended in a drab draw, where both teams went on to score runs in a heap.

As things stand in the second Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Test, the host have a firm grip over the proceedings, after they were bundled out for 458 in the first innings, in reply to 247. At the end of the day three, the visitors are 115/6, and trail by another 96 runs. So, in short, there is only one result possible in the clash, the hosts winning, just the margin of victory remains to be seen.

Sri Lanka on Verge of Solid Win

The third day started with left-arm spinner Taijul Islam bagging his 17th five-wicket haul, but it came a bit too late for the Bangladeshi side. Kusal Mendis (84) had already added some runs with the tail. Sonal Dinusha scored 11, while Tharindu Ratnayake added 10. All-in-all, it proved to be too much for the Bangladeshis, who are fighting for their survival in the match.

SL vs BAN, 2nd Test

Come the second innings, the Sri Lankan spinners too were in their element, as picked up wickets at regular intervals. Just about no batter from Bangladesh looked comfortable during their stay at the wicket. The dangerous Mushfiqur Rahim was ousted by Prabath Jayasuriya for 26, leaving the team in a lurch.

Jayasuriya picked up two wickets, while skipper Dhananjaya De Silva also chipped in with two. Ratnayake contributed with one wicket as well, while the sole pacer to pick up a wicket was Asitha Fernando. The lone hope for the visitors though is, Litton Das, who is unbeaten on 13.
